  • Comandments and Commandments

The previous blogs mentioned are the ones before the Thanksgiving Week blog

    Commandments and Commandments

In my last two blogs I included what I felt were the greatest commandments. The first two paraphrases of scripture (Matthew 20: 37-40) are justified in the Bible. If you read the scripture passages indicated not only here but also as footnotes provided in the two previous blogs, Jesus Himself said these were two greatest commandments. He also goes further to state that “All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” If you are a Bible believing Christian there should be no doubt in your mind as to the validity of these two. I know most of the problem stems from my paraphrasing of the second but there is some confusion to the relationship between these commandments and the original Ten Commandments. I will address these later in the blog.

Most of the problems have occurred over differing opinions over my third paraphrase. Matthew 28:18-20

Mt 28:18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.

Mt 28:19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

Mt 28:20 and teaching to them obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Go out into the world and tell the “GOOD NEWS” of JESUS CHRIST and make DICSIPLES of them! Verse 18 states Jesus’ authority and continuing into verses 19 and 20 states Jesus’ commandment. Many have stated various other verses that could fall easily into the number three slot. You could use the “Good Works” found in James or the many faith verses written but Paul including the “Love” verses of I Corinthians 13 or the “Gift” verses of I Corinthians 14.  However each of these lack one thing: the knowledge of Christ. Without knowledge of Christ, acceptance of his sacrifice and belief in his Resurrection, we can not be called Christians. If we do not spread the knowledge of Christ and train new Christians in his ways, the Church will not grow.

I have gone longer than I really intended and will have to compare the Ten Commandments to my Three Greatest in my next blog.  There a few missionary updates I need to include this time.

    Wellness updates:
